I don't think people should look at these lists and then complain, all the while doing nothing...
If you notice, WP fans and etc. are extremely dedicated to their cause. WP advertised the "Vote for me!" quite often, and their fans immediately shared it. I constantly saw on my FB dash, including people sending me messages "Vote for WP!" -- I rarely, and almost never saw the same for the artists people here wanted...
People need to realise they have the power to make things happen. If you don't want WP to take the #1 position, and if these lists are really so important... you guys have to do more to push your own favourite artists. Do you want to see somebody at your favourite event? Spam the fuck out of their wall. Do a special campaign on behalf of them, and do what you can to get your favourite artists noticed.
Not many people here will like Coone or WP or blah blah... I might not be a 100% fan of their music, but I have to admit they work very hard at what they do, and they seem to have a dedicated fanbase who also appreciates them. The artists who grace these lists often (including the DJMag Top 100) aren't there because they sat around doing the bare minimum to interact with their fans... they are there because they invest the money, time, and effort to get their name there in any way possible. They play as many shows as possible from the big events, to the small clubs; they spend money having Youtube videos created to their music; they have interesting/gimmick type things (ie: The Challenge, which received a lot of attention), and so on...
I have a lot of respect for Coone and WP, I even voted for Traveling as my #1 track of the year. I'm not complaining about this top 100 or anything, but the things you just named have nothing to do with the music itself. I really don't care how an artist interacts with his fans, I know it's very important nowadays but the main goal for an artist is to make good music. A place in the top 100 should be based on the quality of a track and nothing else, not on how much time and effort an artist has put into his fanbase or name. The "best" track of the year has to be there for a reason, because it's really well produced or innovative or whatever, not because the artist spends much time spamming people to vote for him. I know that the world works this way, but for me it will always be about the music. Therefor I believe that this list says more about the size of certain fanbases than about the actual music itself.
Again, I'm not complaining cause I like this kind of hardstyle, but I can understand that some people here are getting a bit frustrated about this socalled best 100 tracks.
