Hardstyle Mafia

As another year comes to an end, so does the journey of Hardstyle Mafia.
Here’s our story. Gonna write this from my (Jesse) perspective so I can put it into words and be honest.
Me and my brother Markus started this project all the way back in 2005. I had found hardstyle by accident and right away we decided this is the music we want make. We made quite a lot tracks during the first couple of years and finally in 2007 we got to release our first vinyl ”Go Insane” on Bazz Implant Recordings. It went to nr. 2 spot in top10 charts of Freaky Records (which I think was the biggest record store back then). We told ourselves ”it’s basicly nr.1 cause there’s only Dj Zany - Wolt ahead of us and the store is owned by them”
We kept making music the next years and had our first bookings. We also released on various labels.
Sometime around 2009-2010 we took a break and Markus decided to stop. Later in 2010 Kimi joined the project. Not long after the re-launch we signed with this brand new label called Spoontech Records. Finally we had a perfect place where to release our music since we felt our style didn’t fit to any other label at the time.
The label was ofcourse unknown back then, but we couldn’t care less about that. We just were super happy that we finally found people who were sharing the same view how hardstyle needs to sound.
Since joining the label, we’ve pretty much reached all our goals we had since the beginning. We’ve performed at Defqon.1, Decibel Outdoor, Loudness and Q-Base + other awesome parties.
But now to recent day. There are couple of reasons behind this decision.
During this year, I have reached the point where I just don’t have enough passion for this music and scene anymore. I’ve been thinking of quitting so many times for the last couple of years but I’ve always found some new joy for the music and kept going. But this time it feels different. It’s been months now and I still feel the same way. This music just isn’t for me anymore.
And the other reason. These days as an artist you have to provide new music faster and faster, post snippets and stories on social media, just to stay relevant. I basicly only have time on weekends to produce so we can’t keep up with that.
For months/a year, most of the time my inspiration has been pretty much gone and it’s been forced. Spending weeks just to make 1 melody is frustrating. Because of all this I’ve been constantly in bad mood and it’s affecting my life.
We didn’t release much music this year but I think the recent tracks are some of our best tracks we’ve made, so it feels good to stop here.
I honestly believe this is the most furthest we are able to go with our career without drastically changing our style, so it’s not worth it. I don’t like this music like I used to, so I don’t want to spend anymore years with it. We never did this for the money or fame anyway, just for the pure love for hardstyle. And when that love is gone, there’s nothing left why we should continue.
We’ve had fair share of ups and downs during our career, but in overal it’s been awesome journey.
Ever since we started, we always were kind of outcasts in this scene so we’d like to thank the best label in the world, Spoontech Records / Vazard and Delete for letting us to be part of the label from the very beginning and giving us home.
Everything else besides producing have been extra and we are so thankful for all what we have experienced and all the people we have met and became friends with.
Thanks to all artists we have collabed with Especially Infirium who’s always cleaning up our sh*t.
Also thanks to all the party organizers who have booked us to play at your events.
And most of all, thanks to all you guys who stayed with us. No matter if you were there in the beginning or just joined in, we hope you’ve enjoyed our music and hopefully you’ll have some nice memories from our music and gigs.
Now it’s time to set new goals in life and start achieving them.
We are still going to be involved with music in some other way. And we might still drop a hardstyle track sometime, you never know. But for now it’s over.
Before we go out, we still have a few more unreleased tracks which are coming out at some point. So stay tuned for them.
We are also going to have one more gig here in Finland, gonna post more info about it soon.
”Until we meet again”,
Jesse & Kimi
