10 jaar geleden bracht ik mijn eerste release uit: Hallucinating. Ofja, hij was eigenlijk verpakt als remix
net een achtergrondverhaaltje getypt op Facebook, maar ook een leuk wist-je-datje hier leek me zo:
Hallucinating... most of you probably don't even know it and yeah, why would you. It's quite an outdated hardstyle track, but I do have an interesting backstory about it
While it's officially released as a remix from my side, it's actually a Geck-o original! I made it one year after I started producing, and sent it to a few artists for feedback. Hardstyle veteran Zatox picked it up and wanted to release it, and he arranged Frequencerz to do a remix.
I don't remember what happened on the Italian side there, but it all took too long and the Freqs proposed to release it with their next collab instead. To fit within this release, we switched the names around, and my original now became the remix
Eager to release fast, I didn't care much about the right credentials and business deals, so I gave it a go and had this one released on Explosive Records, who even pressed it on vinyl. Digital downloads were still not taken seriously back then, so I was more than happy to have it on wax.
Or well, have it? The record company never sent a copy over to me, and I never earned any money with it either because of the remix construction. But I didn't care, and still don't; my music was out there and that was what mattered
Back then, this track represented what I loved most about my favorite kind of music. A big melodic anthem, with driving reverse bass, playful vocal cuts, epic choir breakdown and a beautiful but hard hitting climax. Nowadays though, it sounds quite outdated and I had to overcome some pride posting it
But I can definitely hear the soul in there of that 18 year old kid making it, and laying the foundation for what was to come. And to be honest, I'm quite impressed what I managed to improvise and make by hearing, with almost no technical skill.
