The Hardstyle.com stage at Dance Valley will be the area for all the ultimate hardstyle adepts, offering a prestigious line-up. Because we want to give you some insights about our stage we've asked some artist from the line up to answer the following questions. For the following part of this Q&A series we interviewed Geck-oHi Geck-o! Can you tell us about yourself and what you do in less than 150 words?Well, hi there! I'm Geck-o, a 23 years old hardstyle producer and dj from the Netherlands, providing a unique and very diverse sound. I love hardstyle in all its forms, from the most happy to the darkest, from the hardest to the softest, from oldschool to futuristic sounds - and everything in between! I love to blend with other genres, and I'm always searching for a balance between surprising and pleasing the crowd
What is it about music, particularly the harder styles, that makes you love it so much?Music is such a huge and emotional thing. If you surrender yourself to the music, it can take you anywhere! The harder styles define the extremes in that, providing non-stop climaxes and extatic feelings. What I love about hardstyle is the balance it has between all the other genres.
We know you will be looking forward to Dance Valley, but what do you already know about the festival from past experiences and/or word of mouth?I'm definitely looking forward! The festival is legendary, to say the least. I remember seeing the Dance Valley commercials on the TV as a kid, and now I'm a part of it myself! In my eyes, Dance Valley stands for diversity, which totally matches my own profile.
Hardstyle.com shall host the stage you’re performing at and they have put together a great line-up. What will make your performance different from the other artists playing that day?I always provide my very own thing, different from the rest. It's because of my own productions and the special edits that I play, but also because of the unusual tracks I always pick to play from other artists. Always squeezing in some classics here and there!
Many know Hardstyle.com as the "Home of the Harder Styles". Where would you call home for this type of music and where did you first come in contact with it?Although the movement is global, I would definitely call The Netherlands its home country. All the big stuff happens here! If I wouldn't have lived in this country, the introduction to the harder styles wouldn't have been that easy. I got there via trance and hardtrance, I heard my first hardstyle tracks on a compilation back in 2001 already and have bene hooked ever since.
So what projects are you working on at the moment? Anything special planned for your performance on the 4th of August?I'm always busy in the studio, producing new tracks to play. It's very likely that I'll have something new to test on the Dance Valley crowd
The hardstyle scene is growing really fast these days. Why do you think the genre has become so popular over recent times? Hardstyle has become a mature genre. It worked hard since the beginning of this millennium to get its deserved spot, and now that's paying off! It is a broad genre with many faces, and of course the technical developments have made it way easier for people to discover and explore it.
Where do you see yourself and the genre two years from now?Looking back at the past two years, so many things have happened, that I can imagine really huge things. But expectations - I have none. I will keep doing my very own thing and see where that will lead me
Just for laughs, what is the funniest thing that has happened to you since you became involved in the harder styles? This could be at a festival, in the studio, anywhere at all…For me the whole experience is a big fun thing, with so much experiences all the time. But to name one: having the crowd and all the DJs dressed up at XXlerator Carnaval this year in crazy outfits was absolutely hilarious!
Any last words to say to the Dance Valley visitors?Open your mind! And if you think you are ready for the Geck-o experience, come to my set and party hard
